Mandera Municipality through Environment and Sanitation program have in recent years turned Mandera into an ever-beautiful and lush green that is ever green  that is scintillating under any kind of weather condition.

We only have one planet and we should do our part to ensure that it’s protected by combining our modern ways of living with a deeper respect and understanding of what nature provides.
We believe that conservation of the environment is one of the ways in which we reflect how we feel about the natural world.

Key Achievement by Environment & Sanitation Department

  • Planted 25,000 trees in a span of 8 Years that has in recent years turned Mandera in to a Beautiful Green town.
  • Through afforestation program; the Department have recruited 1189 casual staff, comprised of vulnerable women, Youth and PWD. This has led to stable income every month thus increased economic productivity.
  • Planting trees is incorporated into building plan or design in Mandera Town.
  • Construction of 86 Water storage tanks to support afforestation.
  • Beautification of Mandera town – Transformation of once dusty, rugged town into a green livable hub.
  • Climate change mitigation and adoption through afforestation program.
  • Increase of Tree cover thus helping the attainment of 10% tree cover in the country.
  • Sensitization on the importance of trees planting and environment conservation.
  • Landscaping of County Headquarter offices.
  • Benchmarking of Rumuti Municipality to learn from the department.
  • Participation in the important events like World Environment Day, Tree growing campaign.
  • Flood control through stormwater protection working funded by Kenya Urban Support programme (KUSP).
  • Replication of greening program in government schools, Institution and Hospitals.
